Her intense, steady gaze projects unflinching courage.

Dark Fantasy Story: "The Lightning on the Tide"
The winds off the Iron Coast tasted of salt, ash, and surging magic.

Lady Vesperia stood on the wet stone beach, the hem of her red lace gown sweeping violently in the gale. Behind her, the waterfalls of the ancient citadel crashed into the foaming sea, their mist catching the warm amber light of the setting sun. But Vesperia did not watch the sunset. Her gaze was locked on the dark horizon, where the sea was beginning to churn with unnatural fire.

"The abyssal fleet has cleared the outer reefs," shouted a commander from the high archway above. "Their shadow-ships carry black-flame mortars!"

Vesperia raised her arms, her high-gloss crimson suit gleaming under the stormy sky. Metal plates along her pauldrons shifted into place with a sharp metallic click as energy surged through her gauntlets. Arcs of raw yellow-orange lightning crackled along her forearms, illuminating the dark stone around her boots.

"Let them bring their black flame," she said softly, her voice carrying through the roar of the surf. "They forget who rules these waters."

With a sudden forward step, she struck her gauntlets together. A shockwave of pure energy erupted across the tide, turning the dark incoming waves into brilliant red and golden sparks. The shadow-ships shuddered as the coastal defense wards awakened, lighting up the sky in a curtain of fire and steel.

Standing firm against the tempest, Vesperia smiled—a cold, victorious expression—as she prepared to lead the vanguard into the surf.
