In the misty glow of twilight, Kanna strode down the shadowed alley, her raven hair billowing behind her. The townspeople scattered at the sight of the young witch, muttering prayers and warding signs. But Kanna paid them no heed.
She had a mind for darker matters.
Kanna's eyes glowed an eldritch green as she murmured an incantation. The brick wall shimmered and split, revealing a hidden chamber. Grinning, Kanna stepped through the portal into the cavernous lair within.
In the center of the room, a monstrous form reclined on a platform of skulls. The creature was a twisted amalgamation - the thick hide and muscular tail of a crocodile combined with the horns and leathery wings of a dragon. It regarded Kanna with burning crimson eyes.
"Malvora," Kanna purred, approaching the beast. "Did you miss me?"
The creature rumbled, a deep guttural sound that shook the very walls. Kanna reached out and scratched beneath its ridged chin. Malvora's eyes half-lidded in contentment.
"I have a special task for you tonight," Kanna cooed. "There is an order of monks who have dared defy me. They hide in the mountains, but their sanctimonious chatter has reached my ears. I want you to devour them. Every last one."
Malvora hissed in anticipation, baring rows of daggerlike teeth. Kanna smiled darkly. "Go now, my pet. I will watch from afar."
With a roar that shook the heavens, Malvora burst from the hidden chamber, crashing through buildings and uprooting trees as it charged towards the mountains. The monks' hallowed halls soon resounded with screams and the wet crunch of flesh and bone.
Sated, the monstrous creature returned to Kanna's lair as the sun rose. The witch beamed with malevolent pride as she surveyed the blood and viscera dripping from Malvora's jaws.
"You've done well," she praised, as globs of gore splattered the stone floor. "Now rest, beloved. We shall have more fun another day."
As the witch and her monster settled in for an unholy slumber, the city above grieved for the fallen monks while shuddering in fear of their dark mistress. None dared confront Kanna and risk being torn asunder by her infernal pet.
In the days that followed, Kanna's malevolent reputation spread far and wide. Peasants whispered of her in hushed dread, while nobles sent their bravest knights to confront the witch.
One young knight named Galahad was particularly determined to end Kanna's reign of terror. Armed with a blessed blade and an unshakable conviction, he rode into the city, demanding the witch's surrender.
Kanna deigned to meet the foolish boy in the city square. "You dare challenge me, child?" she asked with mocking amusement.
Galahad stood tall. "I do not fear you, witch. Your evil has gone unchecked for too long. I will put an end to it."
Kanna's eyes flashed emerald. "We shall see about that."
She threw back her head and shrieked, a bestial howl that shattered windows and sent onlookers fleeing in terror. With a thunderous boom, Malvora burst from the earth, looming over the hapless knight.
Galahad's steed reared in panic, but the valiant warrior stood his ground. Malvora lunged, jaws agape to rend its prey.
Galahad leapt aside and swung his holy blade. The edge bit deep into Malvora's hide, smoking where it touched. The beast roared in pain and outrage.
Enraged, Kanna began to chant. Her eyes blazed like twin green suns. Galahad's sword shattered in his hands as the magic wrenched it from his grasp.
Now unarmed, the knight could only watch in horror as Malvora's tail lashed out and struck him down. He lay broken and bleeding as the creature loomed over him, dripping fangs poised to rip and tear.
"Do you have any last words?" Kanna asked sweetly.
Galahad met her gaze with defiant courage. "I am not afraid of you, witch. I will die true to my beliefs."
Kanna laughed, a cold and mirthless sound. "Then die you shall."
Malvora's jaws descended and the knight's valiant cry was abruptly silenced. The witch sighed in satisfaction as her pet gorged itself on the fresh kill.
As news of Galahad's demise spread, a pall of despair settled over the land. The people realized no one was left to save them from Kanna's cruelty. All hope seemed lost.
Until one fateful night when a cloaked figure slipped into the city. Drawing back his hood, a mysterious man revealed striking blue eyes and raven hair streaked with silver. He was ancient and unbowed, his face lined with the weight of centuries.
Moving silently, the man crept to Kanna's sanctum and peered within. The witch slept, while Malvora lay twitching in nightmare shards.
The man murmured to himself. "At last I have found you, Kanna. I am Kira, keeper of the old lore. I have tracked your evil for leagues, and now it comes to an end."...
